You're doing what?!

Quite a few years ago I became a vegetarian and I remained a vegetarian for about 5 years.  I was an ovo-lacto vegetarian, but in my case it really means that I was a cheese and fat vegetarian.  My original intent was to go natural and eat whole foods, make my own bread, cook legumes etc. But, with the pressures of time due to work, I opted for easy processed foods and lots of carryout.  Processed foods, as I now know, introduces abnormally large amounts of high fructose corn syrup and harmful oils into your diet leading to the condition I now find myself in: obesity, type 2 diabetes, and border-line blood pressure.  I finally recognized that my "healthy" vegetarian diet was actually harming me (although it took about 100lbs to figure that one out!) and I needed to change the way I was eating.  So, I introduced lean meats back into the diet.  Unfortunately, once again the pressures of time due to work gave me an excuse to revert to processed foods and carryout.  This has been a spiral going on for almost 20 years.

Time to get off of this merry-go-round and take charge of what goes into my body.

Into the abyss...

Recently began the process of converting to a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle and I thought blogging about it would be a good way to document the journey, mostly for myself.  So here begins the journey into the unknown...
